Gary G. Bennett, PhD




Gary G. Bennett is Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Bishop-MacDermott Family Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, Global Health and Medicine at Duke University. Dr. Bennett developed the interactive obesity treatment approach (iOTA), which is currently being evaluated in several trials. He has published over 100 papers on the social determinants of obesity and the effectiveness of intervention strategies in high risk populations. Prior to joining Duke in 2009, Dr. Bennett served on the faculties of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He co-founded Crimson Health Solutions, which developed evidence-based behavior change interventions for the disease management sector; Health Dialog acquired Crimson in 2007. He also co-founded Scale Down, a personalized digital weight loss program powered by the latest science in daily self-weighing. Dr. Bennett earned his BA at Morehouse College and his PhD in clinical health psychology at Duke University, prior to completing postdoctoral studies in social epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.
