Jamiyla Bolton, MS

Research Program Leader


Working under Drs. Gary Bennett and Dori Steinberg, Jamiyla provides high-level administrative management and support for programmatic development of center studies and programs at the Duke Global Digital Health Science Center. In addition, she directs a large-scale NIH funded study – Charge – that is testing how to best to optimize a text messaging for weight loss. Other projects at the center include a pragmatic trial testing a digital health intervention in primary care and the use of digital health to improve diet quality. Prior to joining DGHI, Jamiyla was a research health science specialist at the Health Sciences Research and Development department of the Durham VAMC. She received a bachelor’s degree at UNC-CH in Exercise and Sport Science with a biology minor, and her master’s degree in physical education and health from NCCU. 

  • Something interesting most people don’t know about me is that I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY. I am still working on my southern charm : )
  • Favorite activity/ hobby outside of work is traveling to places with clear blue water—which is odd since I hate fish. At least I can see them coming!
